How to get a boat licence in Sharjah

Sharjah expects every boat operator in its waters to hold a certified licence. Here's what that means, and how to get trained and ready to apply.

The rule

Who needs a licence in Sharjah?

Boats in Sharjah must be registered and hold a permit from the Sharjah Ports Authority before they sail. Anyone operating a private or commercial craft in Sharjah's waters needs a boat driving licence from the emirate's maritime authority.

That includes vessels registered elsewhere in the UAE but used in Sharjah — for anchoring, fishing or any water activity. Even for simple cruising, a permit is strongly advised.
